Player Conduct
While we do have detailed Rules that clarify essential practices to avoid trouble with staff, this page offers recommendations for fitting into the environment on the Runsafe Minecraft server, and making the most of its various game modes. Assuming your goal is to have a good time, and/or to pursue "Respectable conduct" as per our Rules, this is the page may help you.
General Environment
We highly encourage players to aim for friendly and/or mature engagements. Runsafe is old for a Minecraft server -- The admins do not have much patience for childishness/drama today, and there's no value for anyone in having a miserable time in a video game. Here are some tips for getting along with everyone:
- Teasing/banter/being annoying has it's place, but be mindful not to go too far. Yes, friends and rivals poke each other sometimes... but keep it fun. A good rule of thumb is, if the other party isn't having much fun, or you're being asked to stop saying/doing something to them, it isn't good to persist.
- Bring something fun, enjoyable, or exciting to the environment. While we have no issue with players who simply keep to themselves, engaging with the community will often give you more. Consider being conversational, sharing cool things you made, or being a threat in our competitive game modes.
- Don't act bitter/miserable/passive aggressive all the time. A bad attitude pushes people away from you. And at the end of the day, if your experience on the server is so poor, you should probably be seeking a different activity. Don't keep coming back to something you aren't getting along with.
- Don't act entitled towards people liking you or engaging with you. It's just not that kinda place. While we ask that interactions skew mature, nobody owes you cordial interactions, or any engagement at all. We can't force people to talk to you.
Survival Gameplay
Survival is a harsh world with griefing and PvP enabled, which makes it interesting to navigate amidst the social environment of the broader game. Here are some good principles to take into Survival:
- Accept that hardship is part of the gameplay. Multiplayer Survival is a cycle of creation and destruction, so try to avoid creating/gaining anything you cannot handle losing. It's okay to be frustrated, or even vengeful (when applicable), but don't set yourself up for a distressing situation you aren't emotionally prepared to be in.
- Competitiveness against other players makes this game mode soar. While alliances and peace are great, if there aren't some competing parties, there isn't much tension or excitement either. Even if your status with another party isn't "Kill on sight", creating some kind of friendly competition will bring this mode to life. Consider a gentleman's agreement against only PvP or griefing builds, or just set a goal to see who can reach it first.
- Bitter rivalries can be explored in this game mode via action. We generally prefer respectable social conduct on Runsafe (especially in text), so Survival provides a unique outlet to sort out your differences with the clashing of blades and the destruction of property. If you hate someone's guts, or you just want to teach them a lesson, don't find some cheap way to antagonize them elsewhere. Embrace our actual gameplay and hunt them down properly.
- Have some purpose, don't just set things ablaze. Griefing is allowed, but it's better used for aforementioned meaningful competition than random destruction. Runsafe Survival is full of old and/or easily accessible locations that enrich the world and gameplay for everyone, including you. The most interesting experiences come with targeted use of destruction.
- If you want to be someone's buddy, be careful not to sour it here. We do encourage competitive gameplay and exploration of rivalries, but don't blow someone's house up in a mean spirited way and then expect them to like you. We can demand mature social conduct, but we can't force people to like you if you bolster their bad experiences.
Creative Gameplay
Creative is probably the best place to channel your talents as a builder, and work on fun projects (that won't get blown up). Here are a few key things to understand about our Creative world:
- Staff approval is required on your plot before you can get another one. The Creative world is for presentable builds, not messes. Staff will generally approve either a finished project, or in some cases, something deemed very impressive regardless of it's official completion status.
- If you're working on a group project, bring a good collaborative mindset. Unless you are considered a project leader, it's better to build agreeably than to become fixated on molding everything to your strict vision. You must also be mindful not to grief in Creative over a dispute, as per our Rules.
- While admins will sometimes provide building assistance with World Edit, please don't act entitled to it. Assistance via World Edit is not something admins "officially" provide -- It is essentially a favor. Please request it with normal politeness, and understand that the admin in question may be too busy or tired to say yes.
