The Story
It was the year of the Runsafe Derby, and Spencer was in attendance. He had personally invited the participants to the track, but something felt off. As the racers left the gate, Spencer was nowhere to be seen. As the horses sped toward the finish line and leaped through the final hoop, they were knocked unconscious.
The racers awoke in a daze, feeling their way along obsidian walls in what seemed like an unending tunnel. A purple voice greeted them; it was Spencer. In the weeks leading up the the event, Spencer had become obsessed with his nightly dreams. He began recording what he experienced in a series of journals. Feeling inspired, he was convinced that the dreams were leading him somewhere; to something. Yet, the closer he got to what he wanted, the quicker he would awaken.
In an intelligence report written by MOTT Strategist keltq, Spencer learned of some of Wow_Gerald11's secret plans and designs: the Ark of Kaos, the Kaosfire bow, Deathwing, and the Dream Machine. Spencer was intrigued by these findings, and decided to build his own dream machine. His first attempts failed because he did not have a generator capable of pushing enough power to the machine to keep a stable connection. He realized this is why [we.co] was an energy company first and foremost. Determined, he hatched a plan to split the cerebral load among multiple unconscious captives, so that the bridge to the dream world would remain open even if one of them had awoken.
The racers were now captives of Spencer's consciousness, and would remain there until they helped him get what he was after: the Kaosfire bow.
The Labyrinth
Unlike tunnels prior, there was a light at the end. The racers, Max8abug, AusFriedChicken, des_0, Willopillo, and DragonSexist spilled out of the tunnel and into The Labyrinth. An iron gate guarded passage to a temple reminiscent of the Temple of the Unknown, but clad in Super User iconography.
The Labyrinth was full of mysteries, and the players were not alone. In addition to Spencer's voice, two conflicting voices could be heard echoing through the walls. One voice was gray, and the other was light gray. The light gray voice encouraged the racers to wake-up, while the gray voice urged them to open the gate and enter the temple.
There were many choices to be made, and each player took a different approach. In order to open the gate, the crystals sitting atop of the obsidian towers needed to be destroyed. The racers fought off a slew of skeletons and monsters as they cut their way through the mazelike halls, collecting weapons, armour, and items needed to survive. As they advanced, AusFriedChicken stood watch at the gate to notify the others of the progress being made at the gate.
Once the gate opened, they headed towards the temple and the light gray voice remarked about how impressed they were by their courageous feat. It offered to grant them a wish, which was instantly interrupted by Spencer wishing for "the weapon of Kaos!"
At this point, the racers were given two choices:
- Wake up by exiting through the portal, or
- Break the glass in the floor and descend deeper into the temple.
Remarkably, the racers all chose to wakeup and exit through the portal. This marked "The Spencer Ending."
After wasting their Gerald Day Tokens on redeeming The Spencer Ending, the racers returned to the dreamscape to dig deeper.
Password: ??????
Beneath the temple grounds, the racers fall down some stairs into a chamber with three portals: an end portal, a nether portal, and a mysterious quartz-lined portal. On two walls were a total of twelve inscriptions corresponding to buttons that must be pressed in a specific order to advance. The gray voice who had told the racers to break the glass and descend further, told them that they only have one chance to insert the code. Within the room were two chests which contained a total of six dream tokens. After failing to input the correct password, the group returned to the surface in search of more Dream Tokens, and found just enough for a second attempt. They had succeeded, and the wall behind the large gold monocle at the foot of the stairs opened to reveal a hidden passage. They descended deeper until they came across an iron door that was already open. Inside, they found a room matching the previous room, but with a twist: it was a [we.co] control room for G5-ELLO, a.k.a., "The Dream Machine."
The Machine
The light gray voice reveals itself to be ELLO, the main AI at the heart of the machine. ELLO tells the racers that they do not have permission to be in this area, but the gray voice encourages them to head over to the terminal and open the door. They do. The massive door slides open to reveal ELLO's physical form, a giant machine with a large blue eye.
The gray voice reveals itself to be G5, the suppressed half of the machine. ELLO is caught off guard by G5's attempt to take control. G5 encourages the racers to input his code into the console and press the red 'Override' button. On the other side of the console is the 'Assistance' button, which contacts a [we.co] representative to provide assistance. This opens up two potential endings:
- The G5 Ending - G5 takes control of the machine and deletes ELLO's code, giving him full control.
- The Overseer Ending - Overseer, [we.co]'s premier AI catches G5 and deletes both entities, in accordance with Operation: Dreamcatcher.
Secrets
- The Supers: The gray voice sent the message that not all walls were stone, which hinted that some walls could grant passage. The racers used their pickaxes to strike at these walls and uncovered three beacons, that when inserted into the base of the three towers, shone a purple beam up into the night sky.
- Memories of Tol'Kruth: A small wooden cottage near a well, from the days of Tol'Kruth.
- The Ark of Kaos: Behind one wall was a staircase leading away from the labyrinth once more, this time into a massive cave. Within the cave, the Ark of Kaos was docked. Aboard the ship was a chest containing a full kit of Kaos armor from the early days of Runsafe.
- Sweet Dreams of Candyland: The Labyrinth presented with quite a bit of mysterious battle damage. Fiery craters ripped through the dreamscape, and some revealed distant memories. At the bottom of one crater, Candyland was visible.
- The Beginning: At the end of one corridor there was a hole in the wall covered with snow. Beyond the wall was Wow_Gerald11's first base.
- Runsafe Times Best-Seller: The library from the first Staff Lounge was accessible through a hole in the wall near a death trap. Something tells me Spencer has spent a lot of time reading there.
- The Guild Hall: The guild hall of Kaos was visible through a hole in the wall.
The Secret Prize
Discovered by: Max8abug
Max8abug found a corridor leading away from the labyrinth, outside of Spencer's reach. He found himself outside a little wooden cottage. Housed within was a chest full of carrots with a note and a golden apple, and two mysterious chests locked with magic belonging to Kruithne and Wow_Gerald11. The note from the chest of carrots was from Korakk, and said "well...well...well..." Max8abug went to the water well outside of the cottage and dove to the bottom. There, the voice of Super User Wow_Gerald11 said "The abyss calls. If you are to rise, it must be by your own breath." At the bottom of the well was a chest containing snazzy Super User armor and three totems with the protection of matthew32324, CastAtlas, and Wow_Gerald11. As Max8abug swam up, he struggled to hold his breath and began to drown; but remembered he had looted a golden apple from Korakk's chest. The apple gave him a boost, but it was not enough, one of his totems popped, giving him a burst of life. It was just what he needed to return to the surface and claim the secret prize from the event:
- Super User Armour (set)
- With Our Powers Combined (shield)
